Liverpool next manager: Four Jurgen Klopp replacements as Premier League crisis goes on – Express

Liverpool could lose Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season. The Reds boss, who is under pressure following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday, has been linked with the Germany job. So, amid their Premier League crisis and reports tipping him to go, Express Sport will name four potential replacements.

Steven Gerrard

Let’s start with the obvious.

Steven Gerrard didn’t win the Premier League during his Liverpool days – but has now finally won a domestic crown after steering Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title.

If Klopp leaves, the former England skipper would certainly be front of the queue to take over.

Gerrard has earned that right now, with his Rangers side still yet to lose in the Scottish top flight this season.

It’s been remarkable and if anybody is to replace Klopp, Liverpool would be right to give their club legend a crack at the job.

Diego Simeone

Liverpool are now famous across the world for their attacking style of play. When it works, it’s pretty spectacular.

But if they’re forced into parting ways with Klopp then Diego Simeone may be the ideal replacement.

He would make them less entertaining, sure. But he’s a serial winner, one who has steered Atletico Madrid to the brink of the La Liga crown.

Simeone is admired by just about every big club on the planet.

And he’d be a good appointment, even if it may not please every supporter of the Anfield giants.

Massimiliano Allegri

There are some big mysteries in football.

But the fact no European giant has decided to hire Massimiliano Allegri as manager is arguably the biggest of the lot.

The Italian won every trophy barring the Champions League at Juventus, helping them become the European giants they are today.

Therefore, it’s pretty bizarre he hasn’t been hired since walking away from the Allianz Stadium nearly two years ago.

If Liverpool got Allegri, they’d have a serial winner at the helm. And that, certainly, would be no bad thing.

Klopp’s verdict

Speaking after Liverpool’s defeat to Fulham, Klopp said: Fulham will cause us problems – it’s clear. They’re in a good moment, they’re a good team. We all agree a team like this should stay in the Premier League.

“There were moments we could have had more of an impact on the game. Conceding that goal before half-time was a massive blow.

“We tried to react and the boys showed that. In the end we don’t score goals and that’s a big problem.

“We never had a momentum in the season. You can see it’s still in the boys.

“They still have it all but at the moment can’t show it. It would be a masterpiece to find out how we change that overnight.”
