Michigan-Iowa women’s basketball: 8:30 p.m. tipoff time – The Gazette

IOWA CITY — Originally scheduled for a 3:30 tip, the tip for Thursday’s Michigan-Iowa women’s basketball game is now set for 8:30 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on the Fox Sports app and tape-delay televised on BTN at midnight.

“Both institutions decided to delay the game in conjunction with COVID-19 protocols, and after further testing, there are no safety concerns,” according to a UI release.

Iowa players were on the court for warmups around 2:45, when the music was cut and Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder addressed the team.

The Hawkeyes then returned up the tunnel, presumably to their locker room.

Michigan did not warm up before the original tip time.

Iowa is 12-7 overall, 8-7 Big Ten. The Hawkeyes are in seventh place in the Big Ten standings, and if the season ended today, they would be seeded sixth for the Big Ten tournament. Ohio State is in a self-imposed postseason ban.

The Wolverines (13-2, 8-2) were on a 14-day COVID-related pause (Jan. 24-Feb. 7) in which six games were postponed.

This was the second time in three seasons in which a game between the Hawkeyes and Wolverines has been delayed. Their 2019 game at Ann Arbor was postponed a day due to inclement weather.

“We were on the bus, on the way to shootaround, when we got the news they were canceling the game,” Bluder said after the incident.

“It was a bad deal. We’ve got some bad memories there.”

The game was played at 11 a.m. (Iowa time) the next day, and Iowa lost, 90-81.

Iowa’s next scheduled game is Sunday at Wisconsin.
